As a First Time Home Buyer – I often think it’s hard to know what to focus on, so I hope this helps!

Before you get all starry-eyed about that perfect porch swing or the awesome man-cave potential in the basement, think about where you want to put down roots. North Carolina is a big, beautiful state with lots of diverse areas. The mountains, the coast, or somewhere in between? Think about your job, your lifestyle, and what kind of community you’d like to call home. It’s like picking your favorite ice cream flavor, only you’re going to live in it.
Another consideration when buying a home in NC will be SCHOOLS. Even if you don’t have children, or want to have children – you must think about your house as an Investment. Because of that, and hte fact that you might want to sell it sometime, you will want to consider what schools are nearby, and their ranking. It will make a difference in the price you can get for your home.
- Budget Wisely:
Being a homeowner is like playing a real-life game of Monopoly, but instead of passing “Go” and collecting $200, you’re forking over that mortgage payment every month. So, you need to have your financial ducks in a row. Sit down and figure out how much house payment you can carefully afford.
